Rangers 2 St Johnstone 0 as it happened with Cerny and Hagi adopting hero and villain roles in Sunday stroll

Rangers saw off a stubborn St Johnstone side with a 2-0 victory at Ibrox, completing a trio of Sunday wins for the top three in the Scottish Premiership.

Vaclav Cerny was in the news for his outburst at fans during last weekend’s clash with Hibs, but the Czech winger got himself back onside by bagging both goals of the evening to put the visitors to the sword.

His first, 10 minutes before half-time, showcased his real quality as he nutmegged his opponent, took a stride forward and then placed his shot brilliantly into the bottom corner.

His second came from a brilliant pass from Ianis Hagi (more on him later) and he twisted and turned his man inside out before a half-sclaffed right-footed effort past Ross Sinclair in the Saints goal.

His cameo was to come to a premature end though as he saw red after a VAR check for a studs-up challenge on Benjamin Kimpioka. Nicky Clark then had a goal ruled out for offside but in truth Saints were second best for most of the evening.

Philippe Clement will be pleased that his players bounced back from that 4-1 battering at home to Lyon on Thursday and he will now head into the international break on a high.
