Randy Orton injury: Truly heartbreaking update is worrying for WWE

Worrying news for WWE, as it has emerged that Randy Orton could be out of action for the remainder of 2022.

Orton hasn’t wrestled since he and Riddle lost the Raw Tag Team Championship on SmackDown on May 20, and unfortunately, there’s a reason for that.

WWE announced that Riddle has sustained a serious back injury, but many fans thought it was part of a storyline and not legitimate.

However, that isn’t the case, as Fightful Select is reporting that he may need surgery for his back injury and if that happens, he’ll be out for several months.

Fightful has learned that Orton has been dealing with a back injury for quite some time. We’re told that things have gotten progressively worse, and WWE fears that Orton will be forced to undergo surgery. WWE sources that we spoke to said that if that happens, Orton would likely be out of action the rest of 2022

It’s worth noting that these are fears as of right now, and it isn’t 100% known whether or not Orton needs surgery, but based on Figthful’s report, that does seem unlikely.

It was rumoured that Orton was slated to face Roman Reigns at SummerSlam, but those plans are obviously unlikely to come to fruition now, due to his injury.

Instead, WWE has moved Riddle into Orton’s spot, and the former NXT star will face Reigns for his title on SmackDown this week.

As of last month, Orton had been pitched and heavily figured into Summerslam plans, which are now in question, to say the least.

This comes at a bad time for WWE, with Cody Rhodes, another of WWE’s top stars, out of action for nine months due to a torn pectoral muscle.

We’ll make sure to keep you updated on Orton’s status and a potential return, so stay tuned to GiveMeSport for more on that.
