Ralf Rangnick tells Marcus Rashford what to do to regain Manchester United place

Ralf Rangnick says Marcus Rashford must transmit his training performances to matchdays if he is to regain his place at Manchester United.

Rashford was left out of the United XI for the derby defeat at City even though fellow forwards Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood were all unavailable.

It emerged on Monday Rashford was considering his future as he has only started two of the last 11 Premier League games. The 24-year-old is not certain of a start against Tottenham on Saturday as Ronaldo and Cavani are both due to return from injury.

Sources close to Rashford stressed his training performances had been positive and the sole issue was his difficulty in performing at a similar level in matches.

"To play on the same level he trains," Rangnick replied when asked what Rashford had to do to get back into the team. "This is all, we spoke about that a week ago, two weeks ago in a press conference.

"Marcus is training well, he's got an abundant of talent, he's got almost everything you need for a modern striker, it's about transforming the performance of the training sessions into the regular games."

United dropped down to fifth last week as Arsenal leapfrogged them to go fourth with victory at Watford. Arsenal are a point clear of United and also have three games in hand, albeit against Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool. Rangnick conceded Arsenal were favourites to gain the final Champions League qualifying place ahead of the visit of fellow top four contenders Tottenham, who would go above United with a win at Old Trafford.
