Ralf Rangnick struggles have shown Erik ten Hag the biggest problem at Manchester United
Ralf Rangnick's spell as Manchester United manager could be considered a failure. Many fans hoped that the German manager would be able to turn around the club's fortunes after a disastrous start to the season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but that has seemed beyond his capabilities.
Part of this is due to the squad; the performances under Solskjaer were lacklustre and even in the games they won, you could have argue that results might have gone against United. It was very clear that there needed to be a change of manager at Old Trafford and the run that ended with a 4-1 loss to Watford in November.
However a major part of the struggles since then is due to how the squad has reacted to Rangnick's methods. The German was known as the 'Godfather of Gegenpressing' and this is the style he looked to implement when he first joined the club.

It was clear for only the first 45 minutes of his maiden game against Crystal Palace how 'Rangnick-Ball' would look with this United side, but since that point, it has not been visible in any of United's other fixtures. He has a very clear style of play that he wanted to implement and due to reasons that likely won't be fully explained until he leaves Old Trafford, the squad did not take to them, and hopefully, this has offered a warning to Erik ten Hag.
Like Rangnick, the incoming Dutchman also has a very clear and defined style of play that he will not be willing to compromise when he joins United. The issue is that he'll need the squad to change their style to suit the new manager's vision.
