Ralf Rangnick outlines Manchester United rotation plans for Leeds and Atletico Madrid fixtures

Ralf Rangnick has admitted he may need to rotate his starting line-ups next week in order to keep everyone fresh in a series of important games.

It's a massive week for Manchester United both in their hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League and potentially even winning the famous trophy this year.

It begins with a trip to fierce rivals Leeds United on Sunday in a match Rangnick's side need to win to as they look to keep in front of the chasing pack in the top four race.

Then on Wednesday United will play their Champions League last 16 first leg against Spanish champions Atletico Madrid in Spain before returning to Premier League action against lowly Watford.

United have the potential to win all three matches considering all of their opponents' poor runs of form but the intensity of the schedule could be a strain on the squad.

While Rangnick doesn't believe sweeping changes will be required for Sunday's match, he may need to consider changes in the week, if not in Madrid then perhaps against the Hornets.

“Possibly, yes,” the interim manager told United's in-house media when asked if might have to make changes.

“Maybe for Wednesday or Saturday but not so much physically for Sunday’s game because the last game was on Tuesday, so five days between Tuesday and Sunday, I don’t think that it will be necessary to rest some players for the Leeds game.

“What we will do, we will try to play the best possible team to win the game at Leeds, and, then again, we do the same for the game against Atletico on Wednesday.”
