Ralf Rangnick makes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer comparison after Manchester United draw with Southampton

Ralf Rangnick believes Manchester United's draw with Southampton was similar to the type of result that got Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacked earlier in the season.

United saw their hopes of a top-four finish take another hit on Saturday afternoon when they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Saints at Old Trafford.

Jadon Sancho netted his first home goal in a United shirt to give his side a deserved lead in the match, but they were unable to maintain their first-half dominance once again.

Southampton levelled the scores just three minutes into the second-half when Che Adams netted past David de Gea and the visitors were unfortunate not to get another goal after turning the match on its head.

It was another frustrating performance from United and, after the match, Rangnick suggested his side were still making some of the same mistakes as they did under Solskjaer.

"We have to understand where we are," he told Match of the Day. "[Southampton] won 2-3 at Tottenham, and they expected to win easily.

"We got a point today; we expected three and needed three, but that is the situation. That is why there was a change of manager and why we are here.

"It was very similar to previous games unfortunately. It is the fourth game where we were ahead but took one point instead of three. It is difficult to take but we have to accept it."
