Ralf Rangnick allays Raphael Varane injury fears and confirms Manchester United duo have returned

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick says Raphael Varane is available to face Burnley on Tuesday night despite coming off early against Middlesbrough, while Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani will be back in the squad.

The Red Devils exited the FA Cup at the fourth-round stage after losing on penalties to Championship side Boro on Friday night, with Varane subbed off before extra-time.

Lingard and Cavani were not even in the squad, with the former given time off to ‘clear his mind’ after the club blocked a deadline day transfer while the Uruguayan forward was granted extra time off following his international exploits.

Contract rebel Lingard later claimed he had wanted to play and it was United who instructed him not to, but Rangnick insists there are no issues between himself and the 29-year-old and he will have all three players available to face Burnley.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Monday, Rangnick said of Varane: ‘I think he has arrived in the meantime, he seems to be physically fit, has no issues anymore with injuries.

‘Up until he was substituted he did extremely well with Harry against a Championship team but an ambitious Championship team.
