Raith Rovers to appoint Scott Agnew assistant boss as Airdrie release player

Airdrieonians have allowed their player/assistant boss Scott Agnew to leave the club in order for him to take up the role as Ian Murray's No.2 at Raith Rovers.

The midfielder joined the Diamonds at the start of last season and was a key element of Murray's men's march to the League One play-off final.

However, following Murray's move to Championship side Raith on Tuesday the new boss in Kirkcaldy stated his desire to bring his right-hand man with him to Fife.

And Airdrie have now reached an agreement to part ways with 'Aggy' aheead of his official appointment at Stark's Park.

It will be the fourth time the pair have teamed up, having worked together at Dumbarton, St Mirren, Airdrie and now Raith.

A statement from the Diamonds read: "Following a request from Raith Rovers, we have agreed a deal to allow player/assistant manager Scott Agnew to leave the club.

"Scott joined from East Fife a year ago, bringing a wealth of experience on the pitch, and taking up his first coaching role off it. "Going on to make 41 appearances for the Diamonds, Scott proved to be an important player and a valuable right-hand man to Ian Murray. "Scott leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the future."
