Raith Rovers confirm Airdrie assistant's arrival as Ian Murray's number two with retirement call made

Scott Agnew has confirmed his move from Airdrie to Raith Rovers - and that he has retired from playing.

The 34-year-old's departure from his role as player-assistant manager was confirmed earlier this month after Ian Murray took up the vacant boss role at Stark's Park.

Agnew has worked on and off with the former Hibs player during time at Dumbarton, St Mirren and most recently the Diamonds.

Airdrie's Player of the Year Dylan Easton has also completed the move to Kirkcaldy, with midfielder Scott Brown of Peterhead arriving to become the second signing of Murray's reign.

The former Excelsior Stadium boss said: “It’s good to get Aggy in through the door. He’s deserved his break over the summer and he’s delighted to be here.

“We’ll get a good look around the place and a good catch-up over the next few days to see how things will be going forward.

“Most importantly, Aggy was a vital part of what we achieved at Airdrie last season, he was important for myself and he’ll be important for the players as well.

“I’m sure they’ll love working with him. I’ve been lucky enough to work with Scott for the last ten years or so on and off.

“I had him at Dumbarton and took him to St Mirren with me, I even tried signing him a few times before he came into Airdrie but it just didn’t happen for whatever reason. I’m delighted that we can get to work together again.”

Wheels are already in motion for the future at Airdrie under new player-manager Rhys McCabe, who has moved to sign Cammy Ballantyne from Montrose as his maiden signing.
