Rabada slips, Nortje climbs in latest ICC Test rankings

Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada slipped down the ICC Test bowling rankings following South Africa's defeat in the second Test against England last week.

The Proteas were thrashed by an innings and 85 runs in the second Test at Old Trafford, leaving the three-match series level at 1-1.

In the latest ICC rankings update, Rabada, who was third prior to the start of the second Test, dropped three places to sixth after taking figures of 2 for 110 in Manchester.

England seamer James Anderson, who took six wickets at his home ground, returned to the top five and bumped Rabada off the list. The SA star now sits in sixth place.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Anrich Nortje made the notable advancement for South Africa with his 3 for 82, rising three slots to 22nd.

Unsurprisingly, no movement was made in the Test batting rankings, with the closest South African being skipper Dean Elgar, who dropped to 15th.

South Africa had affirmed their position at the top of the WTC table after the Lord's Test, but an innings defeat saw them reduce their win percentage to 66.67%, below that of Australia's 70%.

The Proteas will hope to seal a win in the next Test to ensure they are on course to reach the ICC World Test Championship final in England next year.

The series decider is set to get under way on Thursday, 8 September at The Oval in south London.
