'Questions to be asked' - Journalist slams 'inexcusable' Leeds United man vs Man Utd

Leeds United lost a hugely entertaining tie with Manchester United 4-2 at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.

It’s hard to say what was worse, Leeds’ defensive display or the weather conditions! They entered the break two goals down after Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes found the back of the net.

The half time break also saw Diego Llorente hooked, with the defender putting in a below par performance at Elland Road. Marcelo Bielsa wasn’t afraid to show the defender how poor he’d been by making that decision at the interval.

This was noticed in the match ratings of Beren Cross who gave him 5/10. He justified his decision by saying: “Again lost his man inexcusable at a corner to see the team go behind. Questions to be asked on his role in the second goal too.”

Things didn’t get much better after Llorente’s departure. Granted, a 24 second turnaround saw Leeds level thanks to Rodrigo and Raphinha, but Man United had the knock-out blow. Their substitutes Fred and Anthony Elanga added a goal each to take the game 4-2.

Although he can’t be blamed for the goals in the second half, Llorente was still a huge part of Harry Maguire’s opener. He didn’t challenge the Man United captain and let him convert simply from a corner.

Leeds are now frantically looking over their shoulders. After a far from ideal weekend results wise for them, they’re now just five points clear of the relegation zone with a trip to Anfield coming up next.
