Queen's Park role confirmed for Airdrie legend

Owen Coyle has been confirmed as Queen's Park's new head coach from next season - but will help with their promotion push in the coming weeks.

The former Blackburn Rovers and St Johnstone boss has agreed a deal to take over at the Spiders, having spent the last two seasons in India where he led Jamshedpur to the Indian Super League Shield.

Coyle, who is likely to bring in fellow Airdrie legend Sandy Stewart as assistant, replaces Lawrie Ellis, who was sacked on Hogmanay.

Coyle officially takes over at Queen's Park on June 1, but will help to prepare the team for their remaining League One games, as they chase a play-off spot.

He said: "I thoroughly enjoyed my time at a wonderful club in the Indian Super League, but it was time for me to come home and I am delighted to be joining an ambitious, progressive club in Queen's Park.

"The club’s ambitions are really exciting, and the structure being put into place was enormously appealing to me.

"We have some terrific talent at the club and we will be looking to attract and develop more. The challenge is one I look forward to.”

Queen's Park sit fourth in the table, ahead of tomorrow's clash against Clyde at Firhill, and chief executive Leeann Dempster is delighted to have Coyle on board.

She said: "First of all, we’d like to thank Jamshedpur for the generous way they have behaved throughout our talks.

“With their agreement, and although he doesn’t officially start till June 1, Owen will be able to help us prepare our teams for the final few games of the season.
