Queen Platinum Jubilee party - how to get tickets as first act announced

The BBC has announced details on how to bag a ticket to the Queen's Platinum Jubilee concert in June.

Some 5,000 members of the public will be selected via a ballot to receive a pair of free tickets to the event, taking place at Buckingham Palace.

To be in the audience on Saturday 4 June, the public must apply online for tickets.

The ballot opened at 7am on Thursday 24 February and won't close until Wednesday 23 March.

The 10,000 tickets on offer are not being allocated on a first come, first served basis, meaning those who enter the ballot have an equal chance of being selected no matter when they apply.

As part of the celebratory concert, a stage will be erected in front of Buckingham Palace. A variety of musical performances will feature, from global pop and rock stars to opera singers, with a full, live orchestra.

Famous faces from film, TV and the stage will also celebrate some of the most significant cultural moments from the Queen’s reign.

In addition to the tickets available in the ballot, invitations will be sent to a number of charitable organisations including ones which support young people, the military and the environment as well as those who worked with communities during the pandemic.

It comes as George Ezra, 28, was revealed as the first musician to perform at the Platinum Party At The Palace.

Appearing on The One Show live from Buckingham Palace, Capital Breakfast presenter Roman Kemp stood in the music room to announce the news.

In a statement, award-winning musician Ezra, who currently has chicken pox, said: “Hello everyone, I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to be part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee concert, what an incredible honour to be asked.

“I look forward to seeing you
