Queen of the South boss vows to battle on after Montrose defeat

Under-fire Queens boss Marvin Bartley insisted: “I don’t walk away”.

Furious fans called for him to quit as the club slumped to a 3-2 home defeat to Montrose at the weekend – despite taking a first half lead.

They chanted for him to go and booed at the final whistle in the televised League One encounter.

Bartley stressed: “That’s football. I would rather that they have a go at me because I am the manager rather than the players.

“That is part and parcel of the game and it’s the job that I am in.

“That happens and they vent their frustration. They pay their money to come in and they are entitled to their opinion and they can vent it however they see fit.

“I have not walked away from anything in my life. I don’t walk away from things. I have never done that.

“If I walked away from anything every time someone shouted at me or a set of supporters shouted at me then I wouldn’t have had the career I have had in football.

“You won’t achieve anything in life, especially in this sport if that’s the way you see things.”

He added of the players giving their backing for him: “I don’t doubt that at all.

“They fight for you because they know you have their best interests at heart. And they know how hard me and the rest of the staff work and we just conceded goals that we should not have today.

“Some of the football we played today was absolutely brilliant but then we conceded three goals - you cannot do that in professional football.”

Bartley reflected on the Montrose defeat and said: “Going in one nil at halftime it was going well and they were not much of a threat apart from one at a scramble and we were
happy.

“But then we conceded bad goals, really bad goals. We look back and we could have done better.

“They were down to us.
