Queen of the South boss praises side after win over bottom side Peterhead

Queen of the South manager Wullie Gibson praised his side as they got over their broken Hearts and returned to winning ways.

Boss Wullie was demanding better from his side after their midweek defeat to Kelty.

And they responded with a goal in each half proving enough to kill off bottom side Peterhead.

Gibson said: “It was important that we bounced back.

“The performance could have been better but today was about winning. We need to pick up points, go on a run and climb the league.

“We’ve got to keep trying to do the right things and pick up as many points as possible.”

Gibson hailed Euan East and Josh Todd for scoring two vital strikes and their work at set pieces He said: “I think that’s Easty’s 11th this year and he’s a centre back. He came in as a striker and converted due to injuries. He’s made that position his own now and popped up with important goals.

“Today was important. Peterhead were stuffy and hard to break down and his goal gave us a little lift.

“We were working on set pieces on Friday because we’re not good enough at either end to be honest. We’ve not been defending set pieces properly and then at the other end we’ve not attacked with a purpose.

“Easty showed that today.”

Captain Josh Todd’s strike came at the perfect time and it snuffed out any Peterhead threat.

Gibson said: “The game was crying out for that. You could sense the frustration in the crowd.

“That killed them off so it’s good that Josh popped up. I’ve said to the midfield they need to add goals into their game because we can’t just rely on the strikers. I’d like to tidy up in few areas.”
