Queen of the South boss frustrated after draw with Alloa Athletic

Queens boss Marvin Bartley told of his frustration despite his side losing just one game in their last six.

They came from behind at the weekend to draw 1-1 at home to Alloa and even though Lee Connelly levelled before the break Bartley told how he blasted his players at half time.

He revealed: “There were some harsh words said.

“I always say performance is massively important as you will win more games than you lose if you can perform and I just didn’t feel that we did enough things right in the first half.

“But we were level and we needed to up our game.

“Alloa are on a good run but in terms of taking care of ourselves, when we got back level, we needed to kick on. But we huffed and puffed, and it was short of where we have been recently.”

Bartley did admit that there were positives from the game including improvements on the casualty list as the team prepares for this weekend’s collision with St Mirren.

He added of the run of one defeat in six: “It is down to the players, they’re continuously working hard and when you’re not at your best good teams still take things from games.

“Don’t get me wrong there is a frustration from me and a frustration from them as players which is massive because if they’d been in there high fiving each other then it would have been a worry.

“They are frustrated because they know they can do better, but it is one defeat in six, which is the kind of runs that you want to be on, but we wanted the three points and just failed to get it.”

The Palmerston encounter lacked goal scoring opportunities and Bartley said: “I think we panicked on the ball and our decision making was off a bit, but you’re going to get that with a young group.
