Queen of the South boss eyes new recruits after draw with Alloa Athletic

Manager Peter Murphy is set to sign more players this week after taking a patched-up Queens team to Alloa for their League One opener.

The Doonhamers drew 0-0 at Recreation Park in a lacklustre 90 minutes.

And Murphy later told how he is keen to beef up his squad to cope with the casualty list.

He said: “We’re looking to bring in players.

“I think we’ve got one agreed that will be coming in and maybe one or two more as I think the players need a little help at the minute.

“Hopefully we get through with no more injuries.”

Murphy insisted he took positives from his side’s first league game of the new season but says there is room for improvement.

He added: “It was good to get away with a clean sheet and to pick up a point from the first game of this season, but I think we could be a lot better.

“There are positives and negatives.

“The positive side was the way we defended, the blocks that we made and putting our bodies on the line. I thought that was outstanding.

“However, I think we could have been better higher up the park, but we’ve got six or seven players injured and in the stand. So, I think it’s a good draw away from home.”

He was pleased with a solid, defensive display and also poured praise on his players in the middle of the park.

Murphy added: “It’s also the midfielders, the likes of young Ben Johnstone, putting himself in there to to protect the point.

“It is the whole team putting their bodies on the line at that moment.

“And what really pleases me is they come and celebrate together and are patting each other on the back, which is great, and shows there’s a togetherness there that we can build on.

“There’s always something to build on, but a point away from home is a very good point and then you want to win
