Quarterfinals loom for cruising Blitzbokke after seeing off Tonga and Malaysia

The South African Men's Rugby sevens team is expected to cruise into the quarterfinals of the 2022 Commonwealth Games men's seven rugby tournament after two Pool wins.

They'll have to navigate their Saturday afternoon game against Scotland without the hard-working Mfundo Ndhlovu, who was injured in the 36-5 win against Tonga.

The Blitzbokke had won their opening game against Malaysia 46-0, with Angelo Davids snaring a hattrick as Neil Powell's side build some momentum heading into the Scotland game and the looming quarterfinals.

Blitzbokke captain Siviwe 'Shakes' Soyizwapi was chuffed with how they navigated the early stages of the tournament, but demanded better from his charges.

"We are happy with the results, but we will have to take a look at both games as we made a few errors and it wasn’t the clinical performance we were looking for," Soyizwapi said.

"But, it was a good day and we have something to build on with a lot of positives."

The women's team haven't had the best of outings in their section of the tournament, losing to Scotland 33-12.

They trailed 26-5 at half-time, a position that would make it difficult for them to come back. The bonus from Saturday morning's game was breaching Scotland's defence through Liske Lategan and Donelle Snyders.

They lost their day one games 38-0 and 41-0 to Australia and Fiji respectively.
