QPR suffer major double blow

Queens Park Rangers have been dealt a huge blow as both Chris Willock and David Marshall have been ruled out for the remainder of the 2021-22 Championship season.

Both players limped off against Nottingham Forest last week in a 3-1 defeat, with Willock being the first to pull up after just half an hour of the contest at the City Ground.

And with the Reds out of sight late on against their play-off chasing rivals, Marshall then could not continue for the final minutes of the match – with no substitutions left it was up to defender Lee Wallace to don the goalkeeper gloves for the remaining moments.

Both Willock and Marshall suffered hamstring injuries against Steve Cooper’s side, with Mark Warburton stating that he assumed the latter’s issue was worse than the ex-Arsenal winger’s at first glance.

However it has proven to be the opposite – whilst both have suffered tendon tears to their hamstrings, Marshall’s does not require surgery but Willock’s does as his is a ‘high-grade’ injury, according to club doctor Imtiaz Ahmad.

The Verdict

Whilst the Marshall injury is a bad one, at least the signing of Keiren Westwood covers his absence until Seny Dieng returns.

However the Willock injury is one that is significant and could potentially end up costing the Hoops a shot at the play-offs.

QPR are a much better team with Willock in it and his 18 goal contributions in the Championship this season show him in a very positive light.

Whilst Warburton has other creative talents such as Ilias Chair to call upon, Willock was the main man this season and his absence in the next few months you imagine will be felt very hard.
