QPR fail in transfer swoop for Rangers & Bournemouth target
West Ham have rejected an initial move by QPR for their young left-back Emmanuel Longelo.
It’s no secret that the R’s are keen to bring in a player in that position in the transfer window and they have looked at the 20-year-old, who has made two appearances for the first-team in cup competitions.
However, Telegraph reporter Mike McGrath confirmed that the Hammers have knocked back the R’s approach for the 21-year-old defender.
It remains to be seen whether QPR return with a formal offer as it has been reported previously that the Premier League side will be open to offers for Longelo, who is though to be keen to leave to get first-team football and is interesting Rangers and Bournemouth.
He has understandably struggled for that at the London Stadium, with Aaron Cresswell the number one choice, with Arthur Masuaku and Ben Johnson also options for David Moyes in that position.
Bringing in a left-back seems to be a priority for Michael Beale, with Zwolle defender Kenneth Paal also thought to be on their radar ahead of the new season.
The verdict
This is a blow for QPR as Longelo seems like an exciting young talent and he could’ve been a good fit for the R’s and the way Beale wants to play.
But, there are other options out there and even if an agreement with West Ham can’t be reached, you would still expect the club to be able to bring in a left-back.
As for Longelo, you would expect him to secure a transfer this summer and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
