Pundit urges Klopp to take ‘perfect opportunity’ to put faith in ‘lively’ Liverpool prospect with starting role

Fabio Carvalho deserves to be in contention for his first Liverpool start in their next match, according to one pundit.

Carvalho joined Liverpool this summer after leaving Fulham. The young attacking midfielder has appeared in all four of their matches this season, between the Premier League and Community Shield, as a substitute.

His appearances have accumulated to a total of just 40 minutes. There is clearly a lot more to come from the energetic 19-year-old.

And his workload could be about to increase, perhaps ahead of schedule. According to Football Insider pundit Kevin Campbell, Carvalho deserves a chance to start against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Campbell said: “I thought he was very good against [Manchester] United.

“He was lively. He is brilliant on the ball. I thought he provided a spark for Liverpool in the second half, to be honest with you.

“Bournemouth at home could be the perfect opportunity to give him his first start. [Jurgen] Klopp gives youngsters a go.

“Given how everybody performed on Monday, why not give the man a go? There needs to be changes.

“Have a look at him. I would give Carvalho a start at Anfield. One thing is for sure, the crowd will back him.

“The team needs to get back to winning ways. They must win.

“Why not? I like the kid. He is a very good player who is going to be around for a while. I think we could see him start.”

Although they won the Community Shield against Manchester City, Liverpool have since been winless from their opening three Premier League fixtures. Draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace were followed by a defeat to Manchester United.

It has given Jurgen Klopp an early headache as to how to change their fortunes. Furthermore, a number of injuries in midfield are not helping
