Former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer believes ‘a lot of players’ still need to leave Everton despite the arrival of new manager Frank Lampard.
The Toffees have endured a tricky campaign so far, resulting in the sacking of former boss Rafa Benitez after just six-and-a-half months at the helm.
After 20 Premier League fixtures, Everton are currently hovering just two places and four points above the relegation zone, although they do have a game or two in hand over some of their rivals.
Benitez won just one of his last 13 top-flight fixtures before being dismissed, but the Merseyside outfit’s issues are arguably deeper than just poor management.
Since owner Farhad Moshiri bought a stake in Everton back in 2016, there have been 10 temporary or permanent head coaches at the helm and multiple questionable acquisitions.
According to a report, the Blues had splashed out on the fifth-highest net spend in the Premier League over the last five years prior to the January transfer window, with an outlay of £233.92 million.
Yet Everton have very little to show for it. Finishes of 7th, 8th, 8th, 10th and 12th since 2016/17 have highlighted the underwhelming tenure of Moshiri and lack of progress on the pitch.

And that stagnation has arguably been caused by the poor recruitment that has marred the last few seasons at Goodison Park.
The likes of Alex Iwobi, Theo Walcott and Davy Klaassen have all arrived at Everton in big-money moves before failing to live up to expectations.
Despite Lampard’s arrival marking a new era in the club’s history, Palmer believes there are still many players who need to depart due to the sub-par signings in recent times.
