Pundit insists Man Utd flop can’t wait to ‘get away’ after becoming the club’s scapegoat

Gabriel Agbonlahor reckons Man Utd defender Harry Maguire can’t wait for the season to finish and insisted he’s been unfairly treated this year.

Manchester United had high hopes their 2021/22 season would be a successful one way back in August. Star-man Cristiano Ronaldo returned and was joined at Old Trafford by two other world class acquisitions in Raphaël Varane and Jadon Sancho.

However, Man Utd have flattered to deceive once again and currently reside in sixth position with only one win in their last five outings.

Ronaldo has lived up to the lofty expectations to some degree with 23 goals in 36 appearances. He is one of the primary reasons why the Red Devils are still in contention for Champions League football next season.

The cause for concern within Ralf Rangnick’s camp has been the defence. Throughout the Premier League campaign, United have conceded a total of 52 goals which puts them behind the likes of Brentford (49) and Burnley (45).

Harry Maguire has been at the heart of United’s leaky defence and adding further misery to his wretched campaign was the news his season may have prematurely ended through injury. The Daily Mail recently reported a knee injury could sideline him for United’s three remaining fixtures.

Of those in the defence, the player that seems to have struggled the most this campaign has been Maguire. 40 of the 52 goals conceded in the league have occurred when Maguire was on the pitch and his lowly displays have drawn criticism from all corners.

As well as this, Maguire has been a part of 80 percent of Man Utd’s overall losses in the league this season – more than any other player on the team.
