Pundit highlights 'blatant' red card in Huddersfield Town's win over Hull City

Jobi McAnuff believes the first half red card to Hull City striker Tom Eaves was the turning point in Huddersfield Town’s 1-0 win at the MKM Stadium on Friday. Eaves was sent off for a second bookable offence after a poor challenge on Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien in stoppage time of the opening 45 minutes.

Town had edged proceedings prior to the City striker’s dismissal but very much took a strangle hold on proceedings in the second half with the extra man. They were forced to be patient, though, in their search for a winner as Harry Toffolo bundled in from close range 10 minutes from time to earn a vital three points.

Carlos Corberan’s side were on the wrong end of two questionable penalty decisions in either half but there was no doubt in the referee’s mind with the decision to send Eaves off. Speaking on Sky Sports post-match, McAnuff could not understand why Eaves made such a challenge on a yellow card with the game still very much in the balance.

Via quotes from Hull Live, he said: “He’ll know that sometimes you get a yellow that you don’t think is a yellow or a red (that you don’t think is). But that is more than a yellow and he’s fairly fortunate that it wasn’t anymore and again, having got yourself in that situation to start with, what you cannot do – and this is where from a managerial point of view, it’s so frustrating because you’re trusting your players – you have 20 seconds before half-time comes, and to make that challenge – both blatant, at least bookings in the situation they’re in.
