Pundit claims Liverpool ‘need to look’ at lingering Calvin Ramsay transfer concern for Klopp

Liverpool must be careful not to shunt the progress of Calvin Ramsay after his recent rise earned him an Anfield move, according to Pat Nevin.

The Reds announced Ramsay as their third signing of the summer on Sunday. The right-back has added another option for Jurgen Klopp after deals for Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez.

While Nunez will come straight into the team and Carvalho could get chances in midfield, Ramsay could find his transition to Liverpool life harder.

After leaving Aberdeen for Anfield, he is battling with Trent Alexander-Arnold for the right-back role. Ramsay insisted in his first interview as a Liverpool player that he feels confident of pushing the England international.

According to former Chelsea and Everton star Nevin, Liverpool have likely made another fantastic move for Ramsay given their recent transfer record.

“They’ve got Trent in that position so what’s the deal here?” Nevin told footballscotland. “He’s another one of those where I’ve seen a decent amount of him this season and I’ve been impressed.

But I can’t say he’s a stick on, he’s too young to be absolutely sure.

“But you have to look at the record Liverpool have signing players the last few years, it’s some record they’ve got. The boy [Mohamed] Salah did quite well, no one expected him to do what he did to that incredible level.

“Look around the team and the decisions they’ve made have been spectacular. So for Ramsay, I would trust Liverpool’s decision-makers more than I trust myself.”

Nevin insisted that it is “good news” that Scotland are producing “quality” players, especially at right-back. Nathan Patterson also made the move from Scotland in January, signing for Everton from Rangers.
