Pundit backs West Ham to complete 'massive' Dejan Lovren signing
Former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips has backed West Ham to complete the ‘massive’ capture of Dejan Lovren.
This comes as the 32-year-old central defender was linked with a return to the Premier League recently.
Allowed to Russia Premier League side Zenit Saint Petersburg due to the ongoing conflict, the Hammers could add Lovren to the ranks outside of a transfer window.
Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips suggested that David Moyes should jump at the chance to sign the Croatian.
“He’d be a massive signing. The experience that he’s got would be invaluable at this stage of the season. To try and help the team whether you’re fighting in the Premier League or challenging in Europe. To have someone like that at the heart of your defence with his experience, he’s an organiser and a leader. It would be a massive, massive bonus for them.”
Currently sidelined through an ankle injury, Lovren has made 19 appearances across all competitions in 2021/22.
Whilst the £6.3million valued ace often flattered to deceive in England, there can be no doubting the Croatian’s experience at the elite level.
Moyes remains without Angelo Ogbonna for the foreseeable and therefore adding Lovren to the squad would fill that void suitably.
Still with plenty to compete for between now and May, on a free deal with little to no risk attached, West Ham should be seriously attempting to land the ex-Liverpool man.
