Pumas win it at the death in helter-skelter Currie Cup clash against Western Province

Currie Cup champions, the Pumas, beat Western Province 25-24 on Friday in a match that provided unbelievable excitement from beginning to end.

The match started at breakneck speed, with three tries in the opening 10 minutes.

The first, by Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, which he converted himself, gave Western Province a 7-0 lead.

The Pumas hit back soon after as Corne Fourie forced his way over for a converted try from a ruck under the Province poles, which tied up proceedings at 7-7.

Province scored their second straight from the kick-off when flank Jarrod Taylor charged down an attempted Devon Williams clearance to collect and score.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu stepped up to add the extras as Province led 14-7 after a breathless opening period. 

The match settled down a little after that, but in the 23rd minute, Province set up a lineout not far from the Pumas line after receiving a penalty.

After several goes at the line, No 8 Keke Morabe was denied a try by the matter of a few millimetres.

The Pumas, however, made no mistake when they were down the other end of the field as Fourie scored his second in the 30th minute.

Tinus de Beer couldn't convert as Province held onto a slim 14-12 lead with eight minutes left in the half.

The home side then turned defence into attack a couple of minutes later as they kicked the ball downfield from their line, allowing winger Stefan Coetzee to collect and canter 40 metres to score.

This time, De Beer didn't miss with his conversion attempt as suddenly, the Pumas had lept into a 19-14 lead.

A penalty slotted by Feinberg-Mngomezulu cut that lead as the teams went into the shed at the break with the score at 19-17 in favour of the home side.
