Pub issues statement after police cordon put in place outside

A pub says it remains open despite a police cordon being erected out its front entrance following an 'unrelated' incident.

Photos tonight (December 29) show a small police scene outside The Welcome Inn, in Bury Old Road, Whitefield, Bury. A police van and a force car can be seen inside the small cordon, which surrounds the pub sign. Four officers can also be seen in place.

In a post on Facebook, the Welcome Inn posted that an incident had happened outside the premises but was 'unrelated' to the pub.

"Just letting customers know there has been an incident outside the pub which is unrelated to us," they said. "The front has been taped off by police but we are open. Please can you use the entrance to at the back. Thank you."

Greater Manchester Police have not issued a statement on the incident.
