Provincial championship draw: Derry to face Donegal in Ulster quarter-final

As the draw as made for the 2024 provincial championships, it served up interesting ties across the country, with the Ulster championship once again of interest.

For Micky Harte, who was appointed the manager of Derry, he will face Donegal, who will see the return of All-Ireland winning manager Jim McGuinness.

Should Ulster champions Derry win, they could face his former side Tyrone, who he won two All-Ireland titles with in the semi-final.

Tyrone, All-Ireland winners again in 2021, have to get past the winners of the Monaghan and Cavan tie, which will open up next year's championship.

In Munster, a team from outside the top two divisions will have the opportunity to compete in the Sam Maguire.

Clare, who reached the Munster final last year, and will be in Division three, are on the same side of the draw as Tipperary and Waterford, who are in Division four. With one of these sides guaranteed a place in the final, they will take the place of a Division two team.

For Kerry, they will face the winners of Cork v Limerick, who clash in the quarter-final stage.

In Connacht, Mayo and Galway have been kept apart, as Kevin McStay's side travel to New York, and will meet Roscommon should they win.

In the other side of the draw, Galway will face the winners of Sligo v Leitrim in the semi-final.

In Leinster, Meath could set up a clash with All-Ireland winners Dublin in the quarter-final if they overcome Longford.

Kildare, who pushed Dublin hard in the Leinster semi-final, play Westmeath in the quarter-finals but stay on the opposite side of the draw to the champions.

A midlands derby between Offaly and Laois completes the quarter-finals with the winners joining the survivors of Dublin/Longford/Meath in the semi-finals.
