Proud Peter Schmeichel plants smacker on Celtic hero keeper Kasper as pundit bursts into applause

Proud dad Peter Schmiechel planted a smacker on son Kasper after his heroic display for Celtic in Munich - as Micah Richards broke into spontaneous applause for his ex Manchester City team-mate.

The Hoops shot-stopper was in inspired form between the sticks for Brendan Rodgers’ men before last-gasp heartache when Alphonso Davies finally found the net for the German giants to cancel out Nicolas Kuhn’s opener and send Vincent Kompany’s men into Friday’s Champions League last-16 draw.

Manchester United and Denmark legend Schmeichel has been working as a pundit for most of Celtic’s games and his interviews with Kasper after games have become a feature of coverage on CBS Sports Golazo. And he kicked off this interview with the Celtic man by saying: “I made my way over and shook everyone’s hand and said ‘You did fantastically well, you have everything to be proud of’. They were so close to getting to extra time and it was taken away by literally the last kick of the game.”

Ex England defender Richards, who was in the studio with Jamie Carragher, Thierry Henry and host Kate Abdo, burst into applause and said: “Kasper, magnificent tonight mate, magnificent tonight.”

Abdo said: “Go on Peter, give him a hug.” And Peter said: “He gets a kiss.

Kasper said: “There’s not much to say. It’s a cruel game sometimes. We did everything we possibly could and Lady Luck was against us in the last kick of the game.
