Proteas without skipper Bavuma in 4th Australia ODI, quickie Nortje out for series

The Proteas will be without captain Temba Bavuma and fast bowler Anrich Nortje in Friday's fourth ODI against Australia at SuperSport Park in Centurion.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced in a statement that Bavuma has a right adductor strain and will miss the match as a precautionary measure. Aiden Markram will take over the captaincy in Friday's match.

Nortje, meanwhile, has been ruled out of the remainder of the five-game series due to a lower back injury.

Nortje was a late withdrawal before Tuesday's third ODI in Potchefstroom, which South Africa won by 111 runs to keep their series hopes alive.

After undergoing scans, it was determined that Nortje will also miss the final two games of the series.

CSA said on Friday morning that Nortje consulted with a specialist this week and will start bowling again this weekend under the supervision of the Proteas medical team. 

A further update will be provided in due course, with no replacement named.

Friday's match starts at 13:00.

Australia lead the series 2-1, with the final ODI to take place at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Sunday (10:00).
