Proteas turn it on against Trinidad, but daunting New Zealand encounter awaits: 'We'll be ready'

The Proteas bounced back with a clinical 69-28 win against Trinidad and Tobago in their Netball World Cup Pool F encounter on Monday.

Following their 67-49 defeat to Jamaica on Monday, the Proteas returned to the winner's circle over their Caribbean counterparts.

Proteas' Khanyisa Chawane was one of the standout performances for the national team as she performed well at wing attack, assisting in 12 goals during the match.

Chawane, who only got introduced after half-time, told reporters that they knew they had to take responsibility following their loss to Jamaica on Sunday.

"I think for the team and individuals, it was just about stepping up and not allowing the loss to take us down," said Chawane following their win.

"Each and every person had the responsibility today to come in and perform at the best. As a team, we just brought each other together and motivated each other to step up today and work on things that didn't work yesterday and build on that. 

"We still need to be there for each other and need our best performances. Being there for each other was important today."

The Proteas dominated all four quarters, with their defence shining through as they kept a spirited Trinidad and Tobago outfit at bay.

The Proteas have a day's rest and will face the defending champions New Zealand on Wednesday.

Goal keeper Nicola Smith, who was one of the star performers in defence for the Proteas, says that they'll be ready for their date with destiny against the Silver Ferns.

"From the first quarter, we have to be in the game," Smith told reporters.

"Luckily, we have an off day tomorrow and can do a lot of analysis on Wednesday morning as well. We have a lot of time to prepare for them and we'll be ready.
