Proteas Test support staff confirmed as McKenzie, ex-Black Cap Van Wyk join the fray

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Thursday confirmed the Proteas support staff to work under new head coach Shukri Conrad during the home Test series against the West Indies.

Neil McKenzie, a former Proteas batsman and CSA's current High-Performance batting lead, will join the team as a batting consultant for the two Tests. A permanent batting coach will be named at a later stage.

Kruger van Wyk, a former New Zealand Test wicketkeeper and Proteas women's fielding coach, has been appointed full-time Test fielding coach. Van Wyk, 43, first made a name for himself at the Titans before heading to New Zealand. He played nine Tests for the Black Caps in 2012.

Matthew Reuben and Sizwe Hadebe will join the technical staff from the Titans as the respective performance analyst and physiotherapist, while Runeshan Moodley makes the step up from the Warriors to the national side as strength and conditioning coach.

"Kruger has vast experience having worked across the South African cricket pipeline from club cricket to the national women's team, and I am excited for him bring this expertise to the men's Test environment, along with the newly-appointed technical staff in Matthew, Sizwe and Runeshan," Conrad said in a statement.

Meanwhile, CSA also confirmed that the series will be Charl Langeveldt's last as bowling coach. His position will be taken by former Border stalwart Piet Botha.

Botha, who made 118 first-class appearances during his playing career, boasts 20 years of coaching experience across the South African cricket landscape, having previously coached the Warriors, and most recently the Garden Route Badgers (SWD). His credentials also include being a bowling consultant to the National Academy and South Africa A side.
