Proteas spin twins Maharaj, Harmer nominated for ICC Player of the Month

Proteas spin twins Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer were nominated for the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Player of the Month for April.

South Africa won the two-match Test series 2-0 against Bangladesh thanks to Maharaj and Harmer's stellar performances in Durban and Gqeberha.

The spin duo captured 29 of the 40 Bangladesh wickets during the Test series as a 'weakened' Proteas outfit outplayed the tourists.

They also made history by becoming the first pair of South African spinners to take all 10 wickets in a Test innings.

Maharaj ended as the highest wicket-taker of the series, ending with 16 wickets at an average of 12.12.

He delivered magnificent spells of 7/30 & 7/40 in the two Tests to take his five-wicket haul tally to nine and become the first South African to deliver two consecutive seven-wicket Test hauls.

Harmer, who made a stunning seven-year return to the Proteas set-up, captured 13 wickets at an average of 15.15.

Harmer did a phenomenal job in supporting Maharaj as he delivered consistent spells during the two-match Test series - 3/39, 3/34, 4/103 and 3/21.

Maharaj and Harmer were nominated alongside Oman batter Jatinder Singh.

The three nominees are shortlisted based on performances from the first to the last day of each calendar month.

Meanwhile, Australian star batter Alyssa Healy, English batter Nat Sciver and Ugandan bowler Janet Mbabazi were nominated for April's ICC women's award.

The shortlist is then voted on by the independent ICC Voting Academy and fans around the world.
