Proteas silently confident ahead of World Cup semi-final: 'We don't have anything to lose'

Proteas skipper Sune Luus says her side takes a lot of confidence heading into Thursday's Women's World Cup semi-final against England in Christchurch.

Luus will lead her side in the most important game of their lifetime as they face defending champions at Hagley Oval in a repeat of the 2017 World Cup semi-final.

The Proteas lost narrowly to England by two wickets, but this time, it's different and the women have a chance to go where no men's team has gone to a World Cup final.

There's a lot of expectation on the Proteas women, but they've proved their worth with consistent and brave cricket.

The Proteas suffered only one defeat at the World Cup so far, a loss to potential final opponents and world number one Australia.

At times Luus' side has demonstrated ruthless cricket and has backed themselves in nail-biting crunch situations, usually a plague in South African cricketing history.

This team has worked towards this occasion since the 2017 World Cup heartache and understands how to carry themselves in critical moments.

"Yeah, definitely think it's kind of a team effort. Everybody's stepping up at the right times. I think everybody's been taking responsibility when they're out in the middle and they have to do a job," Luus told reporters on Wednesday.

"I think that's been our biggest thing - normally, we would just kind of give up. But I think over the last few years, we've shown the fight, we've shown the character.

"And like I said, I think the biggest thing for us is people taking responsibility for what they're doing."

Luus says that the semi-final won't be any different than any other game with the Proteas having nothing to lose against
