'Inspiring' Proteas humbled by World Cup support: 'We felt it'

While another semi-final loss for South Africa could be considered a failed World Cup attempt, the Proteas women inspired the nation with a stellar performance at the Women's Cricket World Cup in New Zealand.

Sune Luus' charges suffered another semi-final defeat to England, but it ended as their most successful World Cup campaign of all time.

The Proteas only lost two of their eight World Cup matches as several players put up their hands and performed well during the prestigious event.

World number one ODI batter Laura Wolvaardt starred with the bat for the Proteas as she ended as the fourth-highest run-scorer - making 433 runs at an average of 54.12.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Shabnim Ismail continued her dominance with the ball as she ended as the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament, capturing 14 scalps.

"I think we've inspired people and it's been evident from all the fans, messages and media coverage. We felt it. It's tough to be away from our family for so long.

"You got us
