Proteas qualify for World Cup after Ireland, Bangladesh ODI washout

The Proteas have qualified for the 2023 Cricket World Cup later this year in India after the first one-day international between Ireland and Bangladesh at Chelmsford was washed out on Tuesday.

Ireland needed to beat Bangladesh 3-0 in the series in order to pip South Africa to the final automatic qualifying spot for the prestigious tournament but were left on 65 for 3 chasing Bangladesh's score of 246/9 when rain intervened.

With no further play possible, the match was declared a no result which means the Proteas won't have to participate in the pre-World Cup qualification tournament in Zimbabwe later this year.
