Proteas outplayed by Australia, face England in Quad Series playoffs for 3rd

South Africa fought hard but were outplayed by Australia in their netball Quad Series encounter at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

A boisterous crowd at the CTICC stood behind the national side, but South Arica lost 65-48 to finish at the bottom of the series standings.

It was a strong opening quarter by both sides, with the Proteas trailing by three at the end of it.

However, the Proteas couldn't overcome a world-renowned Australian outfit as the 10-time World Cup champions ran rampant, winning every quarter.

For the Proteas, Ine-Mari Venter converted 29 of 36 goal attempts, while Nichole Taljaard was successful with nine from 13 attempts.

In the second half, the experienced Lenize Potgieter was on song as she had a 100 percent record, shooting six from six.

The lanky Sesandile Ngubane also had some brilliant moments as she shot four goals from seven attempts.

Ultimately, however, the Proteas fell 17 points short to lose their second match of the Quad Series after drawing against England on Sunday.

Norma Plummer's side will play England in the third and fourth playoffs on Wednesday at 16:00.

Tickets for Wednesday's final day in Cape Town can be bought on TicketPros, with prices ranging from R100-R500.
