Proteas on alert, likely to embrace the 'not nice' challenge of 'wild thing' debutant Morris

Proteas all-rounder Marco Jansen says his side is embracing the challenge of taking on debutant Lance Morris ahead of the third and final Test against Australia.

The Proteas head into the final Test 2-0 down, hoping to avoid a whitewash Down Under following dismal performances in the two Tests.

Following Australia's innings and 182-run triumph at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last week, the hosts have made significant changes to their team for the dead-rubber Test.

Spin-bowling all-rounder Ashton Agar and opener Matthew Renshaw were called up to the Australia squad, with Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc ruled out injured.

Western Australian fast bowler Morris earned the nickname "wild thing" following his performance in the Sheffield Shield, leading the wicket-taking tally with 27 scalps this season.

Morris is one of the fastest bowlers in Australia, clocking at over 150km/h consistently.

With Starc out of the with a fractured finger, 24-year-old Morris is the like-for-like replacement as he'll hope to wear the baggy green for the first time this week.

Jansen, who was nominated for the ICC Emerging Player of the Year after a breakthrough rookie season, hopes the fragile Proteas batters can combat the rookie.

The Proteas have had a horrid showing with the bat, scoring 152, 99, 189 and 204 in the two Tests against an on-song Aussie attack.

Jansen says that he hopes the batters embrace Morris' challenge as they seek to salvage a consolation win in Sydney.
