Proteas netball star Lenize Potgieter to miss Commonwealth Games

Fresh off a series against Wales where they ran out 2-0 winners, the Proteas netball team are set for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

They won't have Lenize Potgieter's services to call on, although she was initially named in the squad.

Potgieter, who sat out the series win against Wales, wasn't medically cleared to participate at the game, as confirmed by Proteas head coach, Dorette Badenhorst.  "Lenize will unfortunately not be part of the 2022 team going into Commonwealth Games as she was not cleared by the medical team. She is an experienced player, and it is a loss to the team. We have submitted a replacement to the Commonwealth committee now," Badenhorst confirmed.

Potgieter has 81 caps for South Africa and last played for the national team in 2020.

The Proteas will play two practise matches against Northern Ireland and Trinidad & Tobago while in the village ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
