Promotion hopefuls rejected three bids for Birmingham City old boy

Former Birmingham City defender Geraldo Bajrami was the subject of three unsuccessful transfer bids before the non-league transfer deadline passed. The 22-year-old has been a mainstay of Kidderminster Harriers’ side as they bid for promotion from the National League North to level five.

He was also part of the team which reached the FA Cup fourth round, a run in which they knocked out Championship outfit Reading. Harriers’ progress was ended in cruel fashion by West Ham and although they have had a small wobble of late they remain in the play-off places and hope to reach the National League.

And it is the funds raised by their FA Cup heroics which mean they were able to knock back three bids from Notts County, who themselves are trying to return to the Football League after a three-year absence.

The Magpies are currently in sixth place and strengthened their squad before the deadline passed on Thursday and had taken a shine to Bajrami who was released by Blues last summer. Notts wrapped up the signing of Sheffield United defender Sam Graham on loan until the end of the season after Richard Brindley was ruled out for six weeks with a fractured arm.

The central defender ended his time at Blues as part of the team which won the Professional Development League 2 play-offs at Bramall Lane a year ago. He did so having played a couple of first team games during Pep Clotet’s tenure. He is out of contract in the summer and is sure to attract future interest.
