'Progressive' - Fans praise Harry Maguire role in England goal after Wembley booing

Supporters took to social media to praise Harry Maguire after his progressive passing played a role in England's second goal against Ivory Coast.

The Manchester United captain came in for some undeserved booing from fans inside Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night not only when his name was called out on the tannoy system but also when he first touched the ball. But the former Leicester City defender put in an impressive display in the opening 45 minutes.

It was his role in England's second goal which had fans praising the defender. His pass through the lines of the Ivory Coast midfield found Ollie Watkins who grabbed the opener. Watkins found Raheem Sterling, who then played the ball out wide and ended up on the end of move the double the Three Lions' lead.

Fans took to social media platform Twitter to single out the performance of the United captain, pointing out how good Maguire was at not just passing the ball out from the back but also his ball-carrying skills, two strengths of his game which saw United splash out £80million on the 29-year-old.

Maguire will come up against his former side on Saturday evening when United play Leicester City in the Premier League. United are chasing a top four spot and are four points behind Arsenal who currently occupy the final UEFA Champions League spot. The Gunners have a game in hand over United and the two meet at the end of April at the Emirates Stadium.
