‘Problem…’ - Alasdair Gold says two Spurs players facing Conte axe don't want to leave

Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has revealed that both Emerson Royal and Sergio Reguilon could be sold against their wishes this summer.

Back in May, it was announced that versatile wide man Ivan Perisic had joined the Lilywhites from Inter Milan, and it’s believed that the Premier League giants are also closing in on securing the services of Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence.

As well as bolstering his ranks with new additions, the Italian boss will also be looking to streamline his squad as he continues to build a new-look group and fix the homegrown quota, meaning that some regulars from last term will be facing the chopping block.

As part of a fan Q&A for football.london, Gold was asked whether Reguilon and Emerson would only be let go if Spurs found suitable replacements.

The reporter confirmed both players could be facing the axe, despite not wanting to leave: “I think the problem is having three players in each position and that’s probably too much. You’ve already got Perisic and Sessegnon on the left, with Davies able to cover there, and Doherty and, Spurs hope, Spence on the right, with Kulusevski able to cover on that side.

“Neither Emerson nor Reguilon are believed to be keen to move on but ultimately Conte will want his squad shaped to his demands and if good offers come in and he decides to tell the players they’re not part of his plans then a move is best for all parties.”

If Spence was to put pen to paper on a deal at Tottenham, him and Perisic would likely be Conte’s first-choice wing-backs, so it would be the right option for Fabio Paratici to swing the axe and allow the N17 duo to depart.
