Private Eye editor Ian Hislop's London taxi 'hit by bullet'
Ian Hislop has been unharmed after his taxi was reportedly struck by a bullet in central London. The incident occurred around 10am on Tuesday when the black cab carrying the 'Have I Got News For You' panellist and Private Eye editor was hit as it stopped in traffic on Dean Street, Soho, according to The Guardian.
The driver reported the shooting to the police, prompting road closures and a police search in the area. Hislop, 64, who has been at the helm of Private Eye since 1986 and a mainstay on the BBC panel show since its inception in 1990, was not injured, nor was the taxi driver.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson informed The Guardian: "Police were called at 10.10am on Tuesday October 1 to a report of a firearms discharge on Dean Street, Westminster."
"The driver of a London black taxi reported he was stationary in traffic when a shot was fired towards his vehicle, striking the window. There were no injuries. An investigation has been launched."
Hislop, along with Scotland Yard and Private Eye, have been contacted for further comments.
