Prime Minister Keir Starmer to make emergency statement - live
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is due to make an emergency statement from No 10 at 8.30am on Tuesday morning. It is reported to be about the public inquiry into the Southport attack where three young girls were stabbed to death.
The Home Secretary announced an inquiry into Cardiff-born child-killer Axel Rudakubana just hours after he pleaded guilty to three counts of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder on the first day of his trial. See his custody picture here.
The 18-year-old admitted killing Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party at the Hart Space in the Merseyside town on July 29 last year.
Rudakubana, of Banks, Lancashire, also pled guilty to charges of a bladed article in a public place, namely a kitchen knife with a curved blade. He was charged with additional offences of production of a biological toxin, namely ricin, and possession of information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, namely a PDF file entitled "Military Studies in the Jihad Against the Tyrants: The Al-Qaeda Training Manual", in October.
