Primary school evacuated after fire breaks out
A Welsh primary school has been evacuated after a fire broke out. Pembrokeshire Council said staff and pupils at Manorbier Church in Wales VC School in Tenby are "safe", and asked parents to collect their children following the incident on Monday afternoon.
Pictures on social media show huge plumes of smoke coming from the school building, and sirens can be heard in the area.
An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, said: "There was smoke coming out of the roof tiles. Smoke was coming out of all the tiles. It just caught into flames then."
"The children were in there at the time. The owner of a local caravan park told the school to bring them to the club house to keep safe. Their parents came here to collect them."
A statement from the local council said: "We are aware of a fire at Manorbier School and can confirm that all children and staff are safe."
It added: "Parents & carers are asked to collect learners from Buttyland Caravan Park using Norchard Lane route as usual route to the school is currently closed."
Council officials said crews from the fire service are at the scene.
