Preview: Women's FAI Cup reaches quarter-final stage

Eight will be whittled down to four this weekend with the quarter-finals of the Sports Direct Women's FAI Cup down for decision.

Holders Athlone Town travel to Limerick to take on Treaty United as part of an action-packed Saturday that also sees DLR Waves host Sligo Rovers and Cork City come up against Bohemians.

On Monday evening, Shamrock Rovers face Shelbourne in a Dublin derby that will seal the last place in the last four.

DLR Waves will be high on confidence following their recent league win over Peamount United, but Sligo Rovers will be fired up having reached the penultimate stage last year.

The clash between 2017 winners Cork City and Bohemians will be a curious one as both have produced notable performances in the league this season and have potential match-winners in Colleen Kennedy-O'Connell and Katie Malone respectively.

League leaders Athlone come into the tie buoyed by the recent victory over Shelbourne, but will not underestimate a Treaty United side who have home advantage here.

Shamrock Rovers lost on penalties in the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup Final to Galway United last Saturday, but can use that as motivation to bounce back against a Shels side that finished runners-up in the competition last year.

The Women's FAI Cup final takes place at Tallaght Stadium on 20 October.
