Pretty 'Miss Marple' village perfect for a day out is one of Cheshire's best kept secrets

With a patchwork of gorgeous thatched cottages, cobbled walkways and beautiful walled gardens with views out to Wales, the village of Burton is a tranquil spot off the beaten track. It has long been known as one of Cheshire's "best kept secrets", tucked away at the Western edge of the county.

There's also a strong community spirit here - with a small team of volunteers maintaining the historic Burton Manor Gardens, which open every day to the public for free.

Meanwhile the village bus shelter has been transformed into a pretty painted room with a library full of books inside on the main through road. During covid, it even hosted bread and cake sales.

The historic Burton Manor sits at the heart of the village and was once home to Prime Minister William Gladstone's son Henry. In recent years it has been transformed into private offices.

But the historic estate's pretty gardens remain open to visitors, and are found within the manor's walls which run along the main road of the village.

Next to the garden is also the Burtons at the Manor tearooms which offer a lovely spot for hot drinks and cakes, as well as a range of breakfasts and lunches daily from 9am to 3pm.

There's a large café space with seating inside, as well as a lovely outdoor terrace with views of the village rooftops and the woods on the sandstone ridge that runs alongside it.

Next to the tearooms is the only other business now open in the village - interiors and floral shop The Little Room. Owner Carmel Blackwell also owns a shop in Liverpool, but when lockdown hit needed space nearer to her home in the neighbouring village of Puddington and she took
