Premier League XI of players not at the 2022 World Cup
With the 2022 World Cup qualification stage close to concluding, we know nearly every team that will travel to Qatar this winter.
Unfortunately, some of the biggest stars in the world won’t be there and we have picked out a Premier League XI who failed to qualify.
Goalkeeper: Martin Dubravka (Newcastle and Slovakia)
Newcastle No. 1 Dubravka only played twice for Slovakia in Group H of their World Cup qualifying group due to illness and injury. The Central European country finished third behind Russia and Croatia. Russia’s suspension led to hopes that Slovakia would replace them in the play-offs but FIFA decided to let Poland advance instead.
Dubravka is an important player for club and country. The 30-cap man played every minute for Slovakia at Euro 2020, conceding seven goals, including five against Spain. Seven goals conceded in three isn’t ideal, and the Magpies are pretty keen on replacing him this summer, but trust us, he’s a good goalkeeper.
Right-back: Unknown England player
As everyone is aware, England are very stacked at right-back and Gareth Southgate will probably find a way to call up four or five of them for the tournament in Qatar.
It is guaranteed that an excellent right-back will miss out due to talent available in that position. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is in international limbo and seems extremely far from receiving another call-up.
Meanwhile, you’ve got the choice of Kieran Trippier, Reece James, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kyle Walker, Kyle Walker-Peters and Tariq Lamptey, though injuries conspired to see Ben White play there this week.

Centre-half: Caglar Soyuncu (Leicester and Turkey)
Soyuncu is one of the first names on the teamsheet for both Leicester and Turkey.
