Premier League: Worst XI of the 2021/22 season based on stats

The end of the Premier League season awards celebrate all those that have been successful in the campaign just gone.

We dish out trophies to champions, Golden Gloves to those who have kept the most clean sheets, Golden Boots to those who have scored the most goals, and name the Player of the Year and Team of the Year.

But we don’t think this accurately represents football and the Premier League.

What about the other end of the spectrum? What about the worst players of the season?

We can never imagine the Premier League calling out players who have been rubbish all season so we’ve decided to do it ourselves.

Using stats from WhoScored.com, we discovered the worst XI of the Premier League season just gone.

Harsh? Maybe. But we feel we have a duty to let you know the very worst players of the campaign. Because football isn’t all about winning.

If you don’t agree, don’t blame us. We’re simply using data from WhoScored.com. Also, a player had to make an ‘above average’ number of appearances this season (meaning they had to make more appearances than the average number of appearances made by every Premier League player).

So, without further ado, here is the worst XI of the Premier League season 2021/22:

The Watford goalkeeper conceded 49 goals in 26 Premier League appearances and could only keep four clean sheets all season.

Gibson played 28 Premier League matches for Norwich and, although he played centre-back, he’s capable of appearing at left-back. In those 28 games, his side conceded 57 goals as they finished rock bottom.

The Brentford man made 12 starts and made nine substitute appearances during a promising season for the Bees. However, the 22-year-old Dane didn’t return particularly promising statistics in his debut
